Steamed Egg Custard (Chawanmushi)

February 2010: Despite an hour-long wait for a table, a very satisfying and delicious dinner with friends. Along with the steamed egg custard, which was a favorite for many, we sampled the yakitori, kushiyaki (I recommend the shrimp with lotus root!), agedashi tofu, chicken wings, a spicy squid noodle dish, an interesting version of okonomiyaki with ground chicken, scallion, cheese, and ketchup, and a multi-colored seaweed salad.
