Italian Gelato Sandwich with Peanut Butter and Chocolate and Milk Gelato

As soon as I saw a photo of the ice cream sandwiches at Manducatis Rustica, I knew I had to get one. The delicate wafers sandwiching the gelato reminded me of the delicious little sakura (cherry blossom) ice cream sandwiches sold on the winding streets in the Samurai District in Kanazawa, Japan. This place did not disappoint.
The first flavor I tasted was the peanut butter chocolate and I immediately knew I had to get a scoop. I also got milk, because, well, I like milk ice cream. It’s simple and good. As we stood in the front entrance trying to eat our sandwiches as gracefully as we could, we had the pleasure of meeting Gianna Cerbone, the owner of the restaurant. She told us that if we want to know how good a store’s gelato really is, we should try the lemon. She gave me a sample, and it was really refreshing. I just read about this tip somewhere else, too. I guess it’s really really hard to disguise bad lemon gelato. Good to know!
