Fried Chicken Sandwich

Fried Chicken Sandwich

This sandwich was on my ‘must-eat’ list as soon as I landed in the Bay Area, and several weeks later, my foodie friend and I finally made it there – our first stop during our food tour of the East Bay. It was totally worth the wait! The line moves very fast, thanks to a team of very efficient sandwich makers and counter staff. I was mesmerized with the sandwich-making process and had no qualms about raising my SLR to document the scene. Two huge metal bowls piled high with fried chicken, another huge bowl of delicious crunchy vinegared cole slaw, and a stack of fresh bread in the back. Two by two, the bread is stacked with a handful of cole slaw, topped with TWO fried chicken breasts, sliced in half and wrapped, ready to be bagged.
This is probably the best fried chicken sandwich I’ve ever had. Though the chicken was already cold, it was still surprisingly crunchy, with a very flavorful batter. The cole slaw was so delicious, I purchased a side order of it to take home. Thinly sliced slivers of cabbage tossed with equally thin slivers of red onion, jalapeno for a kick, and parsley, tossed with vinegar and oil.
While you’re there, don’t forget to check out the baked goods – the lemon bars are supposed to be good, and I can vouch for those mouthwatering boxes of strawberry shortcake. Indulge, it will be worth it!
